Description

Is this a “Cosmic Tornado”?

Is my imagination deceiving me? Zoom the image to see the probability!

Of course, it is only an illusion created by the emission nebula located about 7500 light-years from Earth in the Perseus arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia.
The home to many massive, young, stars, these stars radiate copious amounts of ultraviolet light.
This UV radiation excites the surrounding gas and causes it shine much the same way as a neon light emits its colorful hues.

The Heart Nebula is also made up of ionised oxygen and sulfur gasses, responsible for the rich blue and orange colours seen in narrowband images.

Location: Astrophotography Camp Teisani - Valenii de Munte/Romania
Bortle Dark-Sky Scale: 3
