Description

This object is one of the sky's best globular clusters, located 25,000 light years away in the constellation of Hercules. This cluster contains about 300,000 stars and is about 145 light-years in diameter. It is considered to be the finest globular star cluster in the northern half of the heavens.

This is my "benchmark" object that I image whenever I go to a new setup, which in this case is my new full frame sensor (ASI 6200MM) camera, EFW and OAG. The sensor is about twice the width and height of the ASI 1600MM. The setup process for the new equipment has been difficult over multiple nights, which I expected with this new equipment. In addition, seeing/wind has been terrible, so the fine details in this image are not great.

Because of its large size, the image takes a bit of time to load in full resolution. I find the small galaxy NGC 6207 to be interesting.

I have also attached a raw blue sub, stretched but not calibrated or processed. After imaging with the ZWO 1600 and 183 cameras for so long, I was shocked by the lack of any amp glow in the uncalibrated subs of this camera.

Tomorrow I will post the same object taken with the same imaging equipment on my C11 EdgeHD SCT.
