Description

May’s full Moon is the first super moon of the year! A super moon is most commonly defined as any full Moon that occurs when the Moon is at at least 90% of perigee (the point in the Moon’s orbit where it is closest to Earth). The Moon was at a distance of 225,015.3 miles or 362,127 km. This is the first of 4 super moons during 2022.

May's full moon also coincided with a lunar eclipse. This image was taken the day prior to full moon and lunar eclipse. I was scouting the location for the following day. Unfortunately the clouds completely obscured the moon and eclipse on May 15.

Image captured in infrared with a fully modified Canon EOSR with a 720nm filter.
