Description

Merry Christmas!

Still haven't got my mount back but couldn't let a clear night go to waste as they have been few and far between. I got hold of a Star Adventurer and set up last night with the 72ED and DSLR.

M31 was near zenith so seemed like a decent enough target as my usual rig doesn't have the FOV for it.

Not the best image ever but for first light I'll settle for it! I'm pleasantly surprised how well the field-flattener worked :-)

Very gusty with a lightweight mount so short 60s exposures at a very non-optimal ISO1600 (ideally should be ISO400 with this camera). Even so still had to throw out 2/3 of the subs as not even vaguely round so only 30mins worth usable. Flat frames didn't take of an inconvenient dust mote and my laptop battery died just after the wind started to settle down. 2-3 hrs should have been possible on this one but on the plus side I got to bed at a more reasonable time!
