Description

My first dual narrowband image and my fist image this summer back in the desert...and on top, my first panorama (well, it is a 2-panel image)

The Lagoon comes up pretty low on the horizon early in the nights between end of June and early July. I face a light dome just to the southeast and so, I was actually pleased with this outcome.
The Lagoon Nebula at a magnitude 6 is the second brightest DOS in our night sky and faintly visible under Bortle skies 6 and better in BS5 or below. It is located in the constellation Sagittarius. Easier to find it, is to draw a line towards the left through the stars Fang and Antares (Scorpius) with an approximate distance of 3 times the length between the 2 stars starting at Antares. The Lagoon Nebula is approximately 4100 LY away and was discovered by Giovanni Hodierna in 1654 and the Trifid Nebula at 5200 LY from us was discovered by Charles Messier on June 5, 1764.

Title: Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae - M8 / M20 (revision)

Description: I separated the nebulae this time from the stars and processed it on its own to bring out more of the blues around the Trifid. I also tried to get a more distinctive separation of color tones in the Lagoon's center. The reason this image is not visually framed pleasantly is because the panel for the Lagoon Nebula was taken for the Nebula Photos Summer project with the Lagoon smack centered in the frame. I would have chosen another field of view for this composition. This is also the entire 2 panel FOV with minimal cropping.
