Description

1h 27min integral RGB exposure of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) passing by weak barred spiral galaxy NGC 1637 in Eridanus (+11.5m and about 30Mly away) - captured remotely using Telescope #3 (ASA-N D = 0.5m f/3.8, FLI ProLine 16803) system of ChileScope over 3 imaging session carried out on Mar 9, 2023 for Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) and Mar 12, 14, 2023 for the background. Quite a few other galaxies are also visible in the background.


This scene was captured 13 days before the transit of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) over the LBN 917 nebula captured under [1]:

Fine details of the internal structure of NGC 1637 galaxy are visible:

A peculiar diffuse object is showing up (predominantly in the R channel) in the central part of the image (not accounted for by [2]) - contrast enhanced version of the area in question from R channel is given below:

Many start are shining through the coma of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), and several distant galaxies are visible right around it:
