Description

The Orion Nebula, also known as Messier 42  is the nearest star-forming region to Earth, located approximately 1,350 light-years away. The nebula can  be seen with the naked eye as it has an apparent magnitude of +4. The Orion Nebula is part of a larger stellar network — the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex (also known as the Orion Complex), one of the most active star-forming regions visible in the sky.

I started collecting data in 2016 but between weather and life, I never finished gathering what I had originally intended.  I decided to process what I had collected and was quite surprised with the result. Despite only 3.5 hours of total integration the data yielded a favorable result.  I used a HDR blend of 5, 10, and 120 second exposures in RGB with 600 second exposures of Ha data obtained from my backyard in late 2016.

Total RGB= 62.5 minutes
Total Ha = 150 minutes

Tak FSQ106 with QSI and Astrodome Ha, R, G, B filters.
