Description

The Great Orion Nebula, M42, is the closest massive star formation region to the Earth. It is about 1350 light years away, and about 24 light years across. It is visible to the naked eye and forms part of the so-called sword of Orion.

Amongst the new stars is the group of 4 bright stars close together in the heart of the nebulosity, in the upper centre of this image, called the Trapezium.

Exposure: Ha - 6x10' + 4x15' + 20x2', O III - 6x10' + 2x15' + 22x2', S II - 7x10' + 3x15'.
