Description

The Veil Nebula is a large supernova remnant, with several visible parts. This is the Eastern part; there is also a Western Veil Nebula and Pickering's Triangle which form parts of the expanding shell. It is thought to be about 1500 light-years from the Earth and exploded between 5000 and 8000 years ago.

This is a narrow-band image. The nebula has a strong signal in all of the channels normally used for this: Ha, OIII and SII.

I have used a PhotoShop action which implements Bob Franke's modification to the Hubble palette, and this seems to bring out more detail.
