Description

This is SH2-132 commonly known as the Lion Nebula.  It is a faint emission nebula located in the constellation Cepheus and is located roughly 10,000 light years away from us within the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way.  The region is filled with hot and massive stars that are responsible for ionizing the gasses that make up this nebula.

My goal in processing this image was again to bring out as many colors as possible and to pay extra attention to transitions between the colors to increase the overall dynamic range of the image.  I started with a basic SHO formula and after many iterations and complex pixel math trial and error sessions, I ended up with this blend which is a little atypical from what you normally see here.  I spent a lot of time working on emphasizing the blues which tend to get washed out by the other channels in a straight up SHO mix.  I hope you like it.

This will be my last image for three weeks or so as I head off on vacation.  The remote scopes will all be working on long integration projects so hopefully I will have a nice processing backlog when I return.
