Description

This year I chose September for my astrophotography trip to Namibia for some very special reason. As we know in September the faint part of the Milky Way what we call Winter Milky Way becomes visible in the morning hours. And during winter months all the highlights of the night sky that we all know with a lot of h-alpha nebulosity can be observed the whole night. In the southern hemisphere we observe it from the different angle. Orion and many other well-known constellations look upside-down. We see some objects that we never find on the sky of the northern hemisphere such as Gum and Carina Nebula. It’s a time when Magellanic Clouds come to their highest point above the horizon. I had a chance to capture the winter (summer for southern hemisphere) Milky Way arch near Sossusvlei desert where we used to stay several days in the lodge. We found this dead tree nearby encountering some wildlife on the way there which was a bit scary experience. In this windy morning the sky was particularly dark with a stripe of a green airglow. The ray of light from the lodge created a nice play of shadows on the dunes of Sossusvlei with this amazing old tree.
