Description

At a distance of about 130 pc (430 ly), the Corona Australis molecular cloud complex is one of the nearest regions with ongoing and/or recent star formation. Illuminated by a number of reflection nebulae, the molecular cloud lies just north of Beta Coronae Australis, the cloud fans out from Epsilon Coronae Australis eastward along the constellation border with Sagittarius. Being one of the active star forming sites, the region consists of stars in the most nascent stages of their lifecycle.
