Description

I tried capturing a better image of the planetary nebula M97 than I have in the past at f/10 but was limited by shorter imaging hours than anticipated (I was hoping for around 25 hrs or so but got only half that) and a couple of nights of below average seeing at my Bortle 7 sky.  Despite the limited hours, seeing conditions, and moon illumination 67-84%), I was very pleased with the data and final image.  To help alleviate moon effects on the OIII data, I arranged the OIII captures during the furthest degrees away as possible (i.e., 40-45 degrees angular separation).  Given my sky conditions, I think I am going back to using my 0.7x reducer despite not really liking it.

Another change was that I used a gain of 300 vs. the usual 100 for this image.  I also tried the new GHS script, but I did not notice much of a difference on this object vs. the standard HT tool in PI.  I suspect objects with much more global nebulosity might be better to take advantage of the GHS script.  Also, I still need to practice learning its new features.  Finally, I used the Ha stars for this image as I just did not have time to capture RGB stars.
