Description

NGC 1313 or the Topsy Turvy Galaxy is a starburst and a field galaxy, a galaxy that does not belong to a larger galaxy group or cluster and is gravitationally alone in the constellation of Reticulum.
The galaxy has multiple dispersed regions of star formation without the apparent normal trigger of gravitational interaction or spiral processes that usual are causal to this type of star formation.

NGC 1313 is a very fascinating target! NGC 1313 is an isolated galaxy and has no neighbor, and it is not clear whether it may have swallowed a small companion in its past. So the question remains, what caused its asymmetry and stellar baby boom? Another mystery, In the midst of the cosmic violence of the starburst regions lie two objects that emit large amounts of highly energetic X-rays. Astronomers suspect that they might be black holes with masses of perhaps a few hundred times the mass of our Sun each, that formed as part of a binary star system.Imaged in LRGB and H alpha on the Planewave CDK 1000 and CDK 700 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
