Description

My mount manufacturer is running a "target of the month" contest with M27 being the challenge for September 2022. The stated "challenge" was to capture the wings of this well know Nebula. I'm really NOT a big contest guy, but sometimes these things provide additional motivation to go deeper than you normally would on a particular target. I'm happy that I put the time in as this is my best effort on M27 to date. Using Antlia 3nm OIII and Ha filters (along with their RGB filters for the stars) across 5 or 6 nights during the month, I think I was able to grab a decent amount of wing detail as well as a reasonable amount of structure in the core. Total integration time was just a little over 23 hours from my Bortle 8 backyard in Babylon, NY. The subs I took were:

(124) 300 sec OIII
(32) 600 sec OIII
(79) 300 sec Ha
(9) 120 sec R
(9) 120 sec G
(10) 120 sec B
