Description

This is the first full-disk H-alpha image for my rebuilt early Solar telescope. I have been imaging with the Detlef Schmidt-built folded refractor for years. Before that I had a small refractor with a custom-made telecentric and Daystar 0.55 angstrom filter. That gave me about 33% of the sun's disk. What I wanted was a full-disk image system. Detlef agreed to modify the original small refractor for that purpose by reducing the appiture. This is the result.

Along with the modified refractor (now f/28 with a FL 1250 mm) and the Daystar 0.55 angstrom filter,  I acquired a QHY 294 Pro MM for imaging. This gave me a FOV that easily got the full sun disk, with a little to spare.

The posted image includes both the sun and a picture of the modified refractor on my 10 Micron GM 1000 mount. This is image number one. They should get better with a bit of practice.

Now I can get up close with the 5 meter folded refractor and get a full disk with this smaller refractor. The best of both worlds.
