Description

My latest take on the M81 and M82. A pair of beautiful galaxies with very unique shapes and a must target for astrophotographers at this time of the year. M81, the Bode’s galaxy has a delicate and beautiful spiral shape. On the other hand M82, the Cigar galaxy is more elongated with dramatic Ha bursts coming from the center. Both galaxies are surrounded by an extremely faint glow (IFN, integrated flux nebula) which is really difficult to capture. I got it a tiny bit on this image because I shoot this target in dark skies but it needed many more hours of Luminance for it to really pop. This image took me some nights to complete and has a total of 21 hours of integration time, all between RGB, Ha and Luminance filters.
