Description

The Helix Nebula is a planetary nebula which is formed by an intermediate to low-mass star which sheds its outer layers near the end of its evolution. Helix Nebula is located in the constellation Aquarius about 655 light-years from earth and spanning about 0.8 parsecs with the estimated age of 10,600 years. It is the closest planetary nebula to Earth. It's characteristic eye shape and bright colors have sometimes been referred to as the "Eye of God" in pop culture.
