Description

This image was obtained in the course of three sessions from late november to februay. Plagued with bad seeing, intermittent clouds and long periods of cloudy skies I could not accumulate as many photons as I wanted. Since NGC7822 now lies quite low above the horizon, I decided to publish the image anyway.

There are quite a few O-class stars here and one that stands out is BD+66 1673. An eclipsing binary with a big O5 star, accompanied by a smaller but still very bright B star. The O star is one of the hottest with a surface temperature of 45,000°C and is about 100,000 times as luminous as our sun! I marked it with an arrow in the "B" revision.
