Description

Over the last few observation sessions I have been experimenting with binning 2x2 for higher magnification solar images.

As my Lunt has a 60mm aperture, using a 4x or even a 5x Powermate introduces significant over-sampling with the ZWO ASI174MM. Binning at 2x2, whilst reducing the image size, did have a positive effect on reducing exposure time and increasing FPS allowing me to capture more frames on surface detail with a 70% full histogram.

For prominences I typically fill the histogram to 80% and whilst binning at 2x2 did produce lower exposure times and higher FPS there was only a modest difference between the two. Next I will reduce the histogram to 70% and see whether this impacts on the level of detail in the prominences.
