Description

NGC 1023 is well placed for imaging this time of year. It is in Perseus and fairly low in the East at twilight. That leaves a lot of time for imaging, and it is far enough away from the Moon.

NGC 1023 is a barred lenticular galaxy. That means it is midway between an eelipitcal galaxy and a spiral galaxy. It has the shape of a spiral, but no obvious spiral arms.
