Description

Markarian's Chain in our Virgo Cluster.   Luminance captured from south of Death Valley; most of the RGB from backyard.  I found that the skies were so dark, SQM 21.3 to 21.48, that the main galaxies in the chain were blown out at 100 gain 300sec.  So the second night shot at zero gain 120sec resulting in this image.  I count over 150 galaxies in this image!  Some of the PGC’s are very crisp and interesting.  Good glass William Optics!  Full resolution shows them off!  Clouds did come by durning the night but mostly clear.  We left a day early because of the storm heading into California.  (past 2 days we've gotten 8" rain, some snow and hail.  Last year, all year, we got less than 7" total!  what an unbelievable storm and not over yet)

My comedy of errors:  hey honey it’s the new moon and clear for 2 nights, lets go to Death Valley after church on Sunday!  We get to Stovepipe around 3pm and told all the campsites are full; same for the BLM areas nearby…it’s the holiday weekend!  I’m retired, have a hard time even remembering what day it is let alone keeping track of the holidays.  I knew about the place called the “Pads” south of Death Valley.  Arrived there around 5pm, found a pad, and time to setup my 2 rigs before dark.  Nice.   One rig, the 9.25” Edge, failed early in guiding.  Tried everything I could think of for 2 days but couldn’t fix…turned out to be the ASIAIR failed in weird ways.  Luckily, I had my trusty WO102GT.
