Description

Hi Folks,

It's been a really long time since I posted an imaging project!  So, where have I been?

In October, after a two-year search, my wife and I put an offer in on a property that would allow me to build my long-sought-for observatory!

We got the property, and since then, we have been sucked into a black hole of closing, packing, moving, and doing work on both the new a the old house!  I have been amazed at how all-consuming it has been. But the move is now done - the most important boxes are unpacked - my new Man/Astro Cave is in place - and I NEEDED to get my hands on some Astro images.  Since my gear is still all broken down, this took the form of a reprocessing project!

Before all of this started, I had my SH2-157 - The Lobster Claw project from 2021 in my sights.

This was an excellent target taken with my wide-field setup - the Askar FRA400 Astrograph - so I could capture not only the Lobster Claw but also the Bubble Negula as well as several other small objects in this rich region of the sky. This was a Narrowband capture. The first night was clear and wonderful, but the clouds rolled in the next night, and I ended up with only a little over 4 hours of integration.

I was not thrilled with my original processing, and I wanted to see if I could improve on it with new tools and new techniques I have developed since then.

For comparison, here is my original image:

You can see the new version above.

A detailed processing walkthrough can also be seen here:

Hope you like the new version!

Clear Skies,
Pat
