Description

This winter challenge was to take an acceptable picture of the Orion Nebula (Messier 42).This nebula, distinguishable as a non-stellar object to the naked eye, is visible in the Orion sword asterism and lies in the Orion galactic arm, at about 1500 light-years away from Earth. It’s the stars’ nursery closest to our Solar System. In the Nebula’s core, there’s an asterism known as “Trapezium”; due to the high luminance of the Nebula’s core, the challenge in M42’s photography is to make the Trapezium visible, without canceling the weak nebulosity of the region.A personal challenge was completing my work before the Orion season ends. The constellation is low in the sky and after its transit on the southern meridian, a streetlamp makes it invisible to my telescope. So, I had to program many short shooting sessions, which started in December and ended last week.
