Description

There are two 'first' in this image. I have modded my Canon 40D for full spectrum and I have got the new scope - my first apo refractor. As of now I don't have a UV/IR cut filter which is why there are bloated stars in the image. After going through scores of webpages and forum posts I thought a triplet or a quintuplet would be great. I had been oscillating between Sharpstar 76EDPH and 65PHQ. However, due to some issues or the other at the vendor side the order could not be placed. Then my vendor informed me that a customer of his has returned  a new William Optics Zenithstar 73 and would I be interested. It was cheaper (wayyyy cheaper). Then a timely review of doublet vs triplet vs quintuplet was released by Nico Carver on his channel Nebula Photos. I think good sense prevailed and I agreed to purchase Z73. The next day the vendor brought the scope and handed over the scope.

This is my first imaging telescope so I do not have much to share. Thanks to all the experience of imaging with Samyang 135 mm, I was ready to image with this scope within couple of hours of its delivery. On an otherwise very cloudy day, the sky got clear for one hour and I just fired away. The scope was a breeze to use. Focussing with Bhatinov Mask was a joy. I used SIRIL's GHS for the first time and I guess it will become my main tool to stretch images from now on. Lot to learn there.

The next upgrade plan is a dedicated camera. Lets see when that happens.
