Description

Thanksgiving brought about a rare convergence of good fortune: I had the day off and it was sunny in the Pacific NW! That can mean only one thing: solar imaging! Here is a dual image of the sun in white light and hydrogen alpha from that day.

The white light image is taken with the front etalon removed from the Coronado SolarScope and a Herschel wedge with a Baader 540nm solar continuum and 1.8 ND filters installed. Exposure time was 0.093ms for 180 seconds at a frame rate of 34 fps. After obtaining that video the front etalon and blocking filters were replaced and a second video was obtained at 2.83ms exposure per frame, same duration and frame rate.

For the white light exposure, the best sixty frames were stacked. For the hydrogen alpha exposure, the best 900 frames were stacked.
