Description

Also known as NGC 4038/NGC 4039 are a pair of colliding galaxies in the constellation Corvus at a distance of 60 million light years. They are currently going through a starburst phase, in which the collision of clouds of gas and dust causes rapid star formation and produces the amazing colours in the centre. The combined length of the arms is approximately 400,000 light years.
