Description

My first attempt at imaging the moon.

Hoping to take advantage of clear skies last night, I was initially disappointed that the full moon was washing out my intended target (M31). But then the "lightbulb went off" in my head - why not try imaging the moon?!

(For posterity) the process was relatively simple:
  1. Polar Align (probably not necessary), GoTo a random star, get scope into focus
  2. GoTo moon, cancel out of the plate solving
  3. Select "Video" mode within ASIAir, and then use scope controls to nudge the moon to the center of my frame (using cross as reference)
  4. Adjust ROI (1080p), Gain (0), Exposure (6ms)
  5. Shoot a 1 minute video
  6. Perform "Lunar Surface" post stacking in ASIAir

Then in PixInsight:
  1. BlurXTerminator
  2. CurvesTransformation (slight S-curve to tweak contrast)
  3. LocalHistogramEqualization (again, slight tweak to contrast)
