Description

Baily's Beads! My most favorite shot of the eclipse!  This was a shot that needed a lot of background work. I watched numerous hours of youtube videos to understand the basics behind eclipse imaging. Apart from the totality, the Baily's beads intrigued me the most. It is one of the most difficult shots to capture during the eclipse as it only lasts for about 6-7 seconds.

A countless amount of practice sessions went into this perfecting the exposure and timing.  Shortly after the diamond ring emerges in a total solar eclipse, it disintegrates into points of light called Baily’s beads, created by sunlight passing through valleys on the Moon's edge. These beads vanish one by one as the Moon progresses, marking the onset of the total eclipse phase.

The beads on the left happen before second contact C2 and on the right, right after third contact C3. What's in-between them is the mighty Corona!
