Description

The Bode’s Galaxy (Messier 81 or M81 or NGC3031) is the largest member in its group, which contains 34 galaxies, and it is one of the nearest groups to the Milky Way and the Local Group.
It is visible in the constellation Ursa Major about 12 million light-years away from us.
M81 is a grand-design spiral galaxy (having tightly wound spiral arms); it’s about 96.000 light-years diameter wide, like the Milky Way.
Bode’s Galaxy is gravitationally related to M82 (Cigar Galaxy – about 37.500 l.y. wide) and the smaller elliptical galaxy NGC 3077. Probably M81 and M82 collided with each other about 250 million years ago.
Unfortunately, there have been some foggy nights, and a relevant part of my shoots (about 4 hours) was unusable in the picture development.
