Description

This was my first true attempt at Orion, and with the widefield of the 135mm lens, I was able to not only get M42, but also the Horsehead and Flame nebula. I quite enjoy the framing on this one, and it is by far my favorite image I have acquired.

It however wasn't without issue, the biggest issue is the ever present back focus issue with my Rokinon lens. It looks like this may be the last image I get with this lens, unless the 3rd replacement somehow fixes it. Unfortunately, from what I have been able to gather both online and through my own troubleshooting, it seems to be a problem with the way the M4/3 mount version is constructed. Unlike the Canon or Nikon mounts, which go straight from the aperture ring and optics into the bayonet, the M4/3 has a ~25 mm spacer built into the back of the lens (presumably to make up for the much shorter flange focal distance). Unfortunately, this doesn't give a lot of space to play with the back focus as well as there not being a firm replacement mount to attach said spacers. Unfortunately support wouldn't let me swap it out for the Canon mount, which could have helped solve the problem, and so I think this may be it's astro finale.

2nd issue is solely my fault, and is the reason why I took like 1700 10s frames.  That happened because when trying to get shorter exposures to get detail in the core, I meant to only take about 2 hours worth, however before heading back inside for the night, I forgot to change my intervalometer back to 25s, and so it instead took a whole bunch of 10s frames, and I wasn't about to let it go to waste, even if it took almost 2 weeks to stack lol

All in all, I'm proud of this image, and am very excited to keep seeing my skills grow. I'm always open to receiving constructive criticism, so feel free to let me know if you have any tips to improve it. (I know I need to dither, already have a guide camera and scope on the way to automate it all)
