Description

The Pinwheel Galaxy (M101) is a face-on spiral galaxy 21m LY away from Earth in Ursa Major. M101 is very large, with a diameter of 170,000 ly. By comparison, the Milky Way has a diameter of 100,000 ly. It contains around a trillion stars, twice the number in the Milky Way, comparable to the Andromeda Galaxy. M101 is asymmetrical due to the tidal forces from interactions with its companion galaxies that can be detected in ultraviolet images. Taken in my back garden last night, Bortal 8 plus a bright moon nearby. Edge HD8, ASI294MCPro, 210 subs of 70 seconds, Sharpcap, APP.
