Description

SH2-308, also known as the Dolphin Nebula, RCW 11, or LBN 1052, is an impressive astronomical object that captures the imagination with its unique shape resembling a dolphin's head. This nebula is located near the center of the constellation of Canis Major and belongs to a class of objects known as H II regions, which are composed of ionized hydrogen.SH2-308 is approximately 5,000 light-years away from Earth and covers a sky area comparable to that of a full moon, albeit much fainter. This nebula is the result of the powerful stellar winds blown by a hot, massive star known as a Wolf-Rayet star. This star, with a mass more than 20 times that of our Sun, is responsible for the ionization of the surrounding gas, creating the nebula's characteristic glow
