Description

Even though I plan to image tonight, I've been going through a phase of indecision, do I feel like imaging, is imaging fulfilling enough, do I really feel like spending a little time in the cold. I want to do more in Astronomy, but I am mobile astrophotographer and setting up at the bottom of driveway or traveling to the lakes or some other close by dark spot with a reflector is not what I want to do, especially in the Winter, so research is sort of out.  I finally made a decision a few weeks ago to stick with refractor, but need a refractor with a larger aperture and I have settled on giving the ZWO FF130 a go. Luckily my wife said, sure go for it, but wait until after I recover from my upcoming surgery on February 19, waiting to purchase thew ZWO FF130 or some other reflector is a good thing, maybe by the time I recover I will I not feel this way.  I spent a little time yesterday afternoon, trying to setup the ZWO filter wheel on my FLT91, but on the camera end, I didn't have the right size adapter to fit my ZWO2600MCP, my mistake.  Hopefully I can get an adapter for the 2" filter wheel from HighPoint Scientific.  It's been a dreary winter with few and far between clear sky's.  Last night was one of those forecasted clear nights and I decided to image SH2-222, but then changed my mind several times and decided to image M42.  But I couldn't decided on which filter to use for the result I had in my mind.  I finally got back to my first decsion SH2-222, but after 11 sub's unexpected clouds rolled in, if I stuck with my 1st decision on imaging SH2-222 I would have been better off.  However,  I wanted to see how a stacked image of SH2-222 would look like, and the stacked image was terrible, huge round spots throughout the stack. I checked my calibration frames and they look ok (The calibration frames I shot last month or so), so the problems are my light frames.  This afternoon I cleaned my optics on the FLT91, my L-Pro Filter, reducer and 2600 sensor.  So I guess last night wasn't a total loss.

I did work with the data I collected on M42 last night and I think it turned out ok I am not sure what the difference is for I did not see the huge spots, so for now I am fine how good and bad last nights session was.

Roughly 3 hours from now 14:26 and no matter how finicky I might feel tonight, I am going to stick with my decision and image SH2-222.  Since SH2-222 is a reflection nebula, the L-Pro filter is on Deck.
