Description

Image taken across 4 nights this February, 2 nights devoted to Ha and two nights for RGB data. Processed via LRGB combination in PixInsight, including the normal de-noising, deconvolution, etc. Really like this object and the strong red signal that comes from it. In the RGB, the red was very strong, but only a small amount of green and blue for a similar amount of exposure time. I will probably revisit the processing again after I get some more practice using PixInsight.

Exposure Data: 63x600s Ha, 49x180s R, 45x180s G, 50x180s B (HaRGB)
Camera: QHY183m
Filters: Astrodon 3nm Ha, Astrodon RGB
Bortle Scale: 7
Optics: C11 XLT w/Starizona reducer-corrector
Image train: ZWO 1.25” filter wheel, Pegasus Scops OAG, Pegasus Falcon rotator
Mount: EQ6-R Pro
Guiding: QHY 5-III 178m w/PHD2
Software: NINA, PixInsight, Photoshop

Processing: Starting from 4 calibrated stacks, Ha & RGB. On the RGB channels, used EZ Denoise, then linear fit the three channels, followed by EZ Soft Stretch. For the Ha, I first did deconvolution by creating a Starmask using Starnetv2, a range mask to select the light portions of the frame, and a PSF using the Dynamic PSF tool. After deconvolution, I selected the background with another range mask and used MultiscaleLinearTransformation to remove noise from the darker background. I create another range mask capturing only the very brightest portions of the image and used MultiscaleLinearTransformation again with the “bias” option on layers 2 and 3. I then stretched the Ha image using EZ Soft Stretch and combined the channels using LRGB combination, followed by some curves adjustments.
