A way of learning...
After last year's not-so-successful first attempt on this target, I decided to try to photograph it again and better, particularly in regard to capturing the faint bands around NGC3718.
It worked out only partly to the plan since i had to throw away part (several hours) of the data when the autofocus stopped working in -10°C freeze in the middle of the session (the connection between the motor and the focuser became loose). But i still decided to add R, G and B channels last week and put it together at least like this, although with less data, it's more noisy in the result.
My second mistake in this attempt is that i shot the R, G and B data with the field somewhat rotated (note to self: you can't be reckless like this!), so i also had to do a significant cropping (this final photo is just 2/3 of the original format).
In any case, despite the shorter than planned exposure time, the fainter parts of NGC 3718 begin to stand out nicely, so I'm sharing it. It's also good to learn from the mistakes, so hopefully next time i will do even better
