Description

The "Cosmic Color Palette", as I like to call it.

The region around Antares and Rho Ophiuchi has both emission, reflection and dark nebulae strewn throughout the field.  The blue around Rho Ophiuchi comes from dust thin enough to scatter the light of the star in some areas, with the dark nebulae being regions where the dust simply obscures it.

Dust scattering light of Antares is responsible for its yellow-orange color, and the red regions are areas of H-alpha emissions.

I shot Rho Ophiuchi and friends back in 2020, but wanted another crack at in 2021.  After learning new processing techniques in PixInsight, I decided to submit this version.  I did try combining this with the 2020 data, but my copy of the lens back then had a decentered element and the stars in the 2020+2021 stack looked like these Lovecraftian, Cthulu-esque...things that should not be.  So I just processed the 2021 data.

Shot at f/2.0 (wide-open) at 800 ISO with a modded D5300 Nikon.
