Description

NGC 3195 is the most southern planetary nebula in the sky and it gets far less publicity than all of its comparable kind to its north.
This image combines RGB broadband data with narrowband contributions of H-alpha and OIII emission. The boost in contrast shows off some of the inner detail of this dying star-bubble. According to authors on Wikipedia, it is moving towards us... but the expanding shells of gas will dissipate well before it comes anywhere "near" us. Currently it is located approximately 6,000 light years away. This is one of a very few high resolution color pictures of NGC 3195.
