Description

This face-on spiral galaxy is located in the constellation Pisces, and lies about 90 million lightyears away. It's a little hard to see here, but it has several spiral arms (or just a few? It's hard to tell) that are very tightly wound. It's about 171,000 lightyears across, compared to the Milky Way's 105,000 lightyears.

This galaxy is about midway up the southern sky for me, but that's about the worst part of my light pollution and sits between my house and garage, so the light gradients across the image were pretty bad. It was a bit of a messy process, but thankfully the free gradient removal tool GraXpert did a pretty good job.

There are several other tiny, distant galaxies in this scene, although I had some trouble finding good distances for some of them. NGC 492, which is at about the 2 o'clock position out towards the edge of the image (the higher of the pair of dim fuzzy guys) is reportedly 590 million lightyears away.
