Description

I enjoy imaging galaxies and here we go again on the eve of galaxy season I just finished my attempt at M90 a prominent member of the Virgo Cluster.  M90 lies about 59 million light years away in, you guessed it, Virgo.  This is a large spiral measuring about 165,000 light years in diameter and containing an estimated 1 trillion stars.  Those figues are similar to those corresponding to M31 the Andromeda Galaxy but the similarities seem to end there.

M90 has lost most of its interstellar medium and has very little in the way of active star formation other than near the core region.  These facts make it the quintessential "anemic galaxy".  It is thought this galaxy may be  evolving into a lenticular galaxy. (credit messier-objects.com)

This was a fairly straight forward project that would benefit from more integration.  I tried to keep it natural and bring out the outer halo which I think likely extends much further than it appears.

In any case, this one was a lot of fun to do and very nice to process.

I hope you like it and clear skies and good health to you all!
