More fun with the Nifty-Fifty!

My goal was to see if I could capture Sh2-202, a much fainter nebula complex on the left side of the Soul Nebula, with simply 1 hour of exposure time. The patch of nebulosity is just visible with a simple stretch, and obvious in a starless tone map (Rev. B). There’s supposed to be some very faint H-alpha around the Double Cluster, but I’m not sure I got any of the real structure in my data.

I also shot a few RGB frames to evaluate how the Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II lens would perform in broadband. It's not too bad with autofocus for each filter. This was combined with the H-alpha tone map and some older OIII data from my 80mm refractor on IC1848 and IC1805 to create a composite HaOIII-RGB image of the entire region. The H-alpha is less pronounced in the second version (Rev D), which places the focus more on the OIII in order to create a more balanced look.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status.
