Description

Target: The Vela Supernova Remnant Region - HOO

This is a 4 panel mosaic of the Vela Supernova Remnant (SNR). The SNR is located 800 light years away in the southern constellation of Vela. The supernova explosion itself, occurred approximately 11,000 years ago, leaving this incredible structure.

A mosaic was required to capture the core region, which is approximately 4 x 3 degrees in size. The entire SNR is over twice this size and is fully appreciated with a widefield setup.

Total Integration is approximately 36 hours (9ish hours per panel):

Panel 1:
Ha - 48 x 360 sec
Oiii - 44 x 360 sec

Panel 2:
Ha - 49 x 360 sec
Oiii - 42 x 360 sec

Panel 3:
Ha - 48 x 360 sec
Oiii - 42x 360 sec 

Panel 4:
Ha - 45 x 360 sec
Oiii - 42 x 360 sec 

Date: Imaged over March and April 2024 from the ACT region, Australia.
