Description

As Dirty Harry used to put it 'Do you feel lucky?'
Not close to any prizes for this image but last time I tried I didn't see the Squid at all so I'm not complaining!
15min subs with a 3nm Oiii filter on a KAF8300 CCD sensor isn't a recipe for an easy life (wasted a couple of nights with 10min subs last time I tried) but where would be the fun in that? The mount behaved flawlessly so didn't lose any valuable 900s subs.
I got lucky with good conditions on a moonless night so despite my Bortle 5 skies I gave it another shot...
Fun and games processing - I eventually went with layering the Ha and Oiii data onto the complete RGB starfield rather than adding stars to HOO and got a more neutral background. Nothing subtle about the Squid here! No drizzling plus the reducer so the stars are rather blocky but I didn't want to inject more noise into the Oiii.
I could spend another week getting enough data to halve the noise in the Oiii signal but life's too short! I'm ticking this one off the list and moving on....
