Description

M31 is a common target for astrophotographers. The interesting part of this was the identification of M31: V1, the cepheid variable star that convinced the world that the universe was a lot bigger that our own galaxy. Edwin Hubble gets all the credit, but we know that it was only the work of Henrietta Swan Leavitt that made his discovery possible.

Finding M31: V1 was relatively easy with the depth of the luminosity image from the dark skies of the Sierra Remote Observatories, and a bit of plate solving from PixInsight. I can only take credit for the patience of collecting enough data to clearly resolve out that special star. To see the star, zoom in on the lower right corner of the image.

Hope you enjoy the image.

Eric
