Description

NGC 225 is an open cluster in the constellation Cassiopeia. One of its stars, the variable star BD+61 154 -- Herbig Ae/Be Star (also known as V594 Cas), illuminates the blue reflection nebula VdB4 in the center of the picture. This young (< 10 M years) blue star is about 2100 lys away.  A Herbig Ae/Be star (HAeBe) is a pre-main-sequence star  which is still embedded in gas-dust envelopes and is sometimes accompanied by circumstellar disks. These stars are 2-8 Solar mass (M☉) objects, still existing in the gravitational contraction stage and approaching the main sequence.
A quite tough region to image. I am not surprised that there are not so many pictures of it on AB. Unfortunately, I had to discard many pictures as the sky was covered with veils, as often last summer.
