Description

The Dolphin is a Planetary nebula and interesting for the bow shock that forms the Dolphin shape. The bow is caused by the central star inside the nebula is rushing in the direction of the bow causing an interaction with the interstellar medium. I believe the medium is shown here with the rim red background on that side of the nebula.

Planetaries are usually full globe shaped structures and I was keen to show the full picture. That required using longer than my normal subs, more integration time and binning 2x2. OIII recieved most of that extra attention.

I found this difficult to blend in CCDStack so I created stretched .tif masters and then removed the stars with StarNet++. Those starless Ha and OIII channel masters were combined in Photoshop with an OIII heavy blend of the two being used for green. Luminance is a straight Ha and thus the stars return!
