Description

And also this year, inevitable, the time has come to immortalize one of the most beautiful stellar objects in the entire celestial vault: the double cluster of Perseus, a brilliant open cluster visible in the constellation of the same name, composed of 2 groups of stars (NGC 869 , NGC 884) located about 7000 light years from us and discovered by the astronomer and mathematician Hipparchus in 130 BC

Both clusters are located in the Arm of Perseus, the spiral arm of the Milky Way immediately outermost compared to ours, the Arm of Orion. However, the prospect is misleading as the two clusters are about 800 light years apart. The variety of spectral class of the stars that compose it make it one of the most colorful and popular open clusters by amateur astronomers.

Being in a circumpolar sky area, in the Northern hemisphere, it is practically observable throughout the year.
