Description

Hello friends, here's a work in progress... I'm still one tile short of capturing the lower extensions of the western veil NGC6960 of the Swan's Lace in pure RGB. I'll take advantage of the next clear night to complete the job, but I'd love to hear your opinions on this wide-angle view of the Swan's Lace, the remnant of an ancient supernova located 2400 light-years from Earth. This is the first time I've done a mosaic. I've watched and read quite a few tutorials on the subject. Overall, PixInsight is not recommended because of the complexity of making a mosaic. But there are two scripts in PixInsight that make the process extremely simple if not quick: MosaicByCoordinates and GradientMergeMosaic. Technical details: 5 tiles of 50x180s each, for a total integration time of 12h30. Askar FRA500 refractor, Celestron AVX mount, ASI2600MC Pro camera, PHD2 guidance, no filter, Siril pre-processing, PixInsight processing and Luminar Neo post-processing... By the way, I've greatly accelerated (x10) PixInsight processing by making it compatible with the CUDA hardware acceleration of the NVidia GPU. It's a fairly complex operation and involves changing a few PixInsight dlls, but it's well worth it when you see a BlurXterminator process go from 10 minutes to 1!

Title: Swan's Lace Final version

Description: Hello everyone, and here we are! All done. I present you my mosaic (7 panels) of the Cygne laces (IC1340+IC6960+IC6874). I had a bit of trouble finding the little extensions at the bottom, and was missing a little sky background at bottom left (long live clonestamp). This supernova afterglow is so large that even with a full-frame sensor, it barely fits... There are 2h30 (50x180s) of integration time per panel. So we have the equivalent of 2h30 of total integration time, even if it took me much longer to take this photo. This is a pure RGB version. There are no filters, which was made possible by the almost complete absence of moonlight over the last few days. At two panels a night, it took 4 nights to make this photo plus half a day of processing. Setup: Askar FRA 500 refractor, ZWO ASI 2600 MC Pro camera, Celestron mount, ZWO ASI 120 MM parallel guide, NINA sequencer, PegasusAstro focus engine, Siril pre-processing, PixInsight processing, Luminar Neo post-processing.
