Description

Some DSOs just don't seem to get the respect and attention that they deserve.  This is one of those objects.  In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting objects which is not imaged often.

This molecular cloud doesn't even have a decent name.  It is most often referred to as IREC 122, but that is incorrect.   IREC 122 is a similar but less interesting cloud to the left of this image.

This object is the bottom half of LBN 420.   It is located in the constellation of Lacerta at a declination of +42 degrees.   The "head" of the cloud, at lower left, is called G93.46-12.63, after its galactic coordinates.  The molecular cloud has an interesting shape and color.  As is usual for these types of objects, little is known about it.

Looking carefully, you will see many galaxies in the background, highlighted by NGC 7197 and NGC 7223 as shown on the mouseover.

Wishing for clearer skies for all of you in 2024!

Reminder – This object and 3100 more are included in the Imm Deep Sky Compendium, a free planning resource to help astrophotographers find interesting targets in their night sky.  Foreign language translations in Spanish, German, Italian, Polish, and Chinese will be released soon.
