Description

Here we have a trio of HII nebulae located in Orion, all three of which are in the Sharpless catalogue.  I had recently done a wide-field image of this area focusing mainly on Lower's Nebula and these appeared in the field.  So I thought, why not do an image at a greater focal length focusing on them?

I decided to try to go deep with the C9.25 with Hyperstar and see what would come of it.  I used a new Baader High-Speed Hα filter for this and I was really impressed with how well it performs compared to my "normal" Optolong Hα filter in the very fast Hyperstar environment.  I also opted to go with a Baader 10nm Oiii filter because I thought that perhaps that wider filter might help with the bandpass shift issue with the fast focal ratio.  Not sure that helped and like always, the Oiii halos were prominent and it took a lot of work in post to minimize them.

I did do some fairly long (for me anyway) exposures for the narrowband work at 5 minutes.  If you do the math, f/2.3 (the C9.25 with Hyperstar) is about 6.6x faster than f/7 which equates to greater than 30 minute equivalent exposure times.

I think this is a really nice subject that is perhaps a little bit overlooked because of all the other spectacular subject in and around Orion.  I was very happy with the the results, especially the dark nebula area on the right side of the image which I was not expecting to find.

I hope you like this one and as always, comments and criticism encouraged!

CS and good health to you all...
